Atlantic crossing trip from the West Indies to Brittany, with Christmas and New Year at sea! Called Transatlantic or even Transat, sailing across the Atlantic Ocean remains an adventure even if it has become more democratic in recent years. From Saint-Martin to Lorient in Metropolitan France, around 3,500 nautical miles separate the two lands.
Atlantic crossing West Indies to Brittany, a real adventure
Embark as a crew member on board one of our crewed Challenge 67s, 21m monohulls built for crewed round-the-world trips against prevailing winds, for a period of around 28 days. This is a transatlantic, not a cruise.
Of course, you will start from the hot and go towards the cold, but those who have made the two outward and backward transatlantic races agree that the return transatlantic is the most interesting. Why ? Because navigation requires more maneuvers and the weather is more interesting by staying on the edge of depressions. The fauna present during this navigation in the North Atlantic is also more attractive (whales, dolphins …).
Stopover in the Azores on Faial Island
For this navigation to France, a stopover takes place at Horta on the island of Faial for the needs of the ship, whether it is to keep fresh air, a technical intervention or simply to discover Horta and its surroundings (depending on the length of the trip. ‘stopover).
This stopover makes it possible to observe the weather forecast for the last stage and possibly have a period of a few days of “stand by” if necessary. Do not forget, a stop at the essential Peter Cafe Sport to have a drink, remake the world and make your mark on the quay!
Depending on the weather conditions and the crossing time, only the skipper, your professional skipper, will be able to decide on the duration of the stopover.
A committed Atlantic crossing
You will embark as a crew on board, supervised by 2 professional sailors, graduates Captain 200 Sailing. Thus, you will be subject to navigation shifts, approximately 8 hours per 24 hours, but also to stewardship, cooking, dishes, etc.
