Start of the Ocean Globe Race<\/strong>… set sail from Lorient for Southampton in the UK to watch the start of the Ocean Globe Race.<\/p>\n

Heading to the start of the Ocean Globe Race ex Whitbread<\/span><\/h2>\n

To mark the fiftieth anniversary of the Whitbread<\/strong>, the first crewed round-the-world race created in 1973, 14 crews are taking part in the Ocean Globe Race<\/strong>. This retro event is in the spirit of the Whitbread: a 27,000 nautical mile course around the world<\/strong> with four legs, via the southern seas and the three capes. The start will be from Southampton on 10 September 2023.<\/p>\n

Come aboard to watch the start of the crewed round-the-world race<\/span><\/h2>\n

You will board one of our 21m crewed monohulls. This sailing course is designed for sailors with previous experience who want to progress<\/strong> as a crew member or watch leader. The emphasis is on anticipation<\/strong>, decision-making<\/strong> and taking responsibility<\/strong> for watches, in consultation with the skipper and his first mate. The aim is to master<\/strong> night navigation, onboard safety<\/strong>, manoeuvres, onboard management, equipment and onboard crew.<\/p>\n

The sailing program starts in Lorient La Base (the former submarine base where the Cit\u00e9 de la Voile Eric Tabarly is also located). You will set sail heading to Southampton. Located on the south coast of the United Kingdom, opposite the Isle of Wight, there are around 300 nautical miles to cover from Lorient.<\/p>\n

Depending on the weather conditions, the sailing course goes through the Raz de Sein and the Chenal du Four, with a crossing of the English Channel. ETA in Southampton is on Saturday 9 September to take advantage of the Ocean Globe Race village.<\/p>\n

On Sunday 10 September, we’ll be alongside the crews taking part in this crewed round-the-world race to accompany them at the start and for the first 24 hours, before heading to our home port of Lorient, where the sailing course will come to an end.<\/p>\n
