To name just a few that you’re likely to come across on your journey – the Isles of Scilly\, the Isle of Man\, Islay\, Jura\, Mull – they all have a sense of authenticity\, of nature in its wildest form. Ireland should not be left out\, depending on the weather conditions and sailing times. \nOffshore cruise to Scotland\nThe sailing areas are interesting and varied\, well-suited to our Challenge 67s\, the former crewed round-the-world boats that sailed against prevailing winds. Whether in the Celtic Sea\, the Irish Sea\, or the St George’s Channel… the open sea and nature await you! \nSupervised by two professional sailors\, both qualified as Captain 200 Sailing and holders of the State Certificate\, each crew member plays an active role in the running of the yacht and life on board. At sea\, navigation operates on a 24-hour basis. On-board duties are organised into watches. You will therefore be required to stand navigation watches\, approximately 10 hours per 24-hour period. In addition\, you will also be required to stand galley watches\, including cooking\, washing up\, weather monitoring\, etc. Our vessels deliberately do not use autopilots or furling systems. This is\, in fact\, one of the best ways to discover offshore sailing. \nCrossing the English Channel\, the Celtic Sea\, the St George’s Channel…\nAround 800 nautical miles separate Lorient from the west of Scotland\, the end point of the first part of the sailing programme. For the first part\, perhaps you’ll head straight for the Fastnet? Or\, depending on the situation\, via the Fromveur Islands or the Isles of Scilly. These first few days will allow you to learn the basics of sailing\, including a Channel crossing.\nTaking weather conditions and forecasts into account is a key factor. Throughout your voyage\, these will determine the choice of route and ports of call. Over 400 sailing yachts of all kinds\, from 9 to 30 meters\, take part\, heading west down the Solent and out through the Needles\, past the major south coast headlands\, Anvil Point\, Portland Bill\, Start Point\, and Lands End before rounding the famous Fastnet rock and then returning via the Scilly Isles before finishing in Cherbourg. \nCrew member in the Rolex Fastnet Race 2025\nYou can be part of the crew to race 695 nautical miles\, supervised by a professionnal crew (skipper and first mate). DESCRIPTION:Start of the Ocean Globe Race… set sail from Lorient for Southampton in the UK to watch the start of the Ocean Globe Race. \nHeading to the start of the Ocean Globe Race ex Whitbread\nTo mark the fiftieth anniversary of the Whitbread\, the first crewed round-the-world race created in 1973\, 14 crews are taking part in the Ocean Globe Race. This retro event is in the spirit of the Whitbread: a 27\,000 nautical mile course around the world with four legs\, via the southern seas and the three capes. The start will be from Southampton on 10 September 2023. \nCome aboard to watch the start of the crewed round-the-world race\nYou will board one of our 21m crewed monohulls. This sailing course is designed for sailors with previous experience who want to progress as a crew member or watch leader. The emphasis is on anticipation\, decision-making and taking responsibility for watches\, in consultation with the skipper and his first mate. The aim is to master night navigation\, onboard safety\, manoeuvres\, onboard management\, equipment and onboard crew. \nThe sailing program starts in Lorient La Base (the former submarine base where the Cité de la Voile Eric Tabarly is also located). You will set sail heading to Southampton. Located on the south coast of the United Kingdom\, opposite the Isle of Wight\, there are around 300 nautical miles to cover from Lorient. \nDepending on the weather conditions\, the sailing course goes through the Raz de Sein and the Chenal du Four\, with a crossing of the English Channel. Opened to IRC\, Class40 and other Multi\, it is raced in double-handed and crewed. \n• The Trinité – Cowes is a 350 nautical miles event that links the two iconic ocean racing ports via the Raz de Sein\, the Chenal du Four*\, the Channel crossing and the Solent. \nDuration is about 7 days (from Lorient) for the race La Trinité – Cowes\, and back to Lorient our home port.
