Discovering the Faial and Pico islands in the Azores
Located at the latitude of Lisbon, the 9 islands of this Portuguese archipelago are of volcanic origin. With its 2351 meters of altitude, the Ponta do Pico volcano on the island of Pico is the highest point of the Azores. A northern position and an oceanic climate give them lush vegetation and a very special fauna: sperm whales, beaked whales, dolphins…
Azores and South Brittany Crossing in wide mode…
You embark in Horta on the island of Faial aboard one of our two Challenge 67 with professional crew. The first 5 to 6 days will open the doors to the west of the Azores, to discover Faial and its neighboring islands of Pico, São Jorge and Punta Del Gada: marine mammals, walks on land, tasting of vineyards… Moorings in the evening to take full advantage of these islands and anchor before heading to southern Brittany. For those who would like to observe marine mammals, local companies offer boarding on board semi-rigid boats for around 3 to 4 hours of navigation.
Then it’s “the big jump”, 7 to 9 days of offshore sailing in the Atlantic Ocean, punctuated by shifts, sunrises and sunsets under the starry vault of the Atlantic. Everyone actively participates in the smooth running of the sailboat and life on board, in active mode, supervised by 2 qualified sailors Captain 200 Sailing and State Certificate.
